Windows Vista Example

This will explain how to configure Windows Vista to use the Georgia Tech LAWN. This does not cover wireless cards that rely upon vendor-specific configuration utilities. This does not cover the installation of the card itself, though typically this consists of nothing more than inserting the card and allowing Windows to do the rest.

Right click on the Network icon near the clock and Open the Network and Sharing Center

or

Open the Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel

Click on Manage wireless networks in the left pane

Click Add and Manually create a network profile

Enter "GTwireless" in the Network name (SSID) field.

For Security type, choose "WEP". If you do not have the WEP key, you may get from the LAWN SSID and WEP key webpage.

Check the Start this connection automatically and Connect even if the network is not broadcasting boxes

When you are done, it should look just like this the image to the right.

Click Next

Click Close

Now you should be connected to GTwireless!

For maximum privacy/security please make sure to turn off any of the items in Sharing and Discovery that you are not actively using. If you don't know what it does, turn it off

Launch your favorite web browser. You should be redirected to the LAWN login page. Once you are logged in, you may use the network.
