Configuring eduroam on Android 7.1 (Nougat)

This guide will explain how to configure Android 7.1 to connect to the eduroam network. This guide was made on a device running stock Android 7.1.1. Starting in version 7, Android prompts you on how to handle the authentication server certificate when inputting your credentials (CA Certificate field in step 5 below). In previous versions of Android you would be prompted to trust the certificate after inputting your credentials and trying to connect.

Important Note: If you have previously conencted your device to the GTwifi, GTother, or GTvisitor networks, you should delete/forget these wireless configurations prior to joining the eduroam network. Only one GT network should be configured on any device at a given time.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi menu item.
  3. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.
  4. eduroam should be in the list of avialable networks; tap it to connect.
  5. In the resulting pop-up, ensure the settings are set as follows:
    • EAP Method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2
    • CA Certificate: Do Not Validate
    • Identity:Use your institution credentials in the form of <institution username>@<institution domain>. For GT users use your GT account username for the institution username and gatech.edu for the institution domain (e.g. gpburdell33@gatech.edu).
    • Password: Use your institution password for the username used in the identity field.
  6. Tap the "CONNECT" button.
  7. You should now be connected.
