The LAWN is expanding
January 4, 2005
The LAWN currently has a pool of approximately 1000 IP addresses available to users via DHCP, this fall we consistently saw over 850 of those addresses leased to users. We expect that number to increase to over 1100 this spring, which would exhaust the addresses currently available.
Beginning this Thursday (01/06/05), the LAWN will expand to include a larger group of address available for users. To most users, this will be an invisible change; however, if you use a service which behaves differently when you are on the LAWN, then you may need to contact the administrator of the service which you are trying to use.
In addition to the current address range 18.104.22.168/22 (22.214.171.124 through 126.96.36.199) LAWN users will also be given addresses in the range 188.8.131.52/21 (184.108.40.206 through 220.127.116.11). System and network administrators who limit or enable services available to LAWN addresses should add the new range of addresses. Alternately, they could rely on the address to resolve to a DNS name of the form lawn-[IP].lawn.gatech.edu to guard against future changes of this nature should they become necessary.
