On 12/17/2012 at 6:00AM we will begin broadcasting a new SSID "GTwifi". "GTwifi" is equivalent to "GTwpa" with the exception that it will not have WPA1-Enterprise(TKIP) support. "GTwifi" will be WPA2-Enterprise only.
Two important desires are to:
Demystify the naming of our preferred SSID into something that will instantly be recognizable as "That's what I want, wifi!" and lead our users to utilize the preferred SSID.
Improve connection stability and security by removing WPA1-Enterprise support (a known issue on OSX based devices).
While "GTwifi" will be the network most users should and will use, "GTother" is for those devices that do not support WPA2-Enterprise network authentication, as well as for some devices which are shared among multiple users.
On 05/06/2013, we plan to decommission "GTwpa", prior to the majority of users returning to campus for the Summer 2013 Semester.
We will be updating the LAWN documentation (see http://www.lawn.gatech.edu) on Monday (12/17/2012) to coincide with the spinning up of "GTwifi". If you have any questions please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
