Wireless LAWN IP address range moving August 2, 2006
On Thursday August 10th, 2006 between 6-7:30AM the wireless LAWN IP address range will move. There will be a brief outage during this time in order to make the necessary configuration changes. This move is necessary to accommodate the growing number of simultaneous users on the LAWN. The LAWN IP address space for wireless clients will
move from 199.77.208.0/21 to 128.61.112.0/20 Wired LAWN users will continue to use this address
space: 199.77.204.0/22 This change should not require any action by users; however if you or your department have LAWN specific rules in your firewalls or local access controls, you should modify them to reflect this change. OIT managed firewalls will be modified automatically if rules existed for the previous LAWN address space. On a related note, users should consider disabling their wireless cards whenever they are plugged into a wired network. This will help to reduce the number of IP addresses leased (DHCP) but not in use on the LAWN. Most laptops have a button, switch, or function key sequence which quickly disables or enables the wireless card in addition to methods in the operating system. For discussion, issues, or questions regarding this change please use the Connectivity Forum or contact: Matt Sanders (matt.sanders@oit.gatech.edu). Thanks! |
